While many young students across the Charlotte area are enjoying pool time and family trips, several young athletes in our area are preparing for the USA Gymnastics Championships.

Everest Gymnastics in Huntersville has qualified Drew Gibbs, Amiah Glenn, Claire Schaefer and Thomas Havrun to the championships, which will be held next week, July 3rd-7th, at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.  The competition includes both Junior Olympic and elite levels and is one of the national championships held annually by USA Gymnastics.

15-year-old Drew Gibbs is from Davidson, NC. He started training at Everest Gymnastics in 2017, but before that he was self-taught. Gibbs qualified on Double Mini at Level 8.

12-year-old Amiah Glenn of Huntersville, NC has been training at Everest since she was six-years-old. She progressed into Everest’s T&T (Trampoline and Tumbling) competitive team about three years ago. During the championships, she will compete on Double Mini at Level 9 and on Trampoline at Level 8.

Claire Schaefer qualified on Double Mini at Level 8 and on Trampoline at Level 8.  She is 12 years old and from Huntersville, NC.  Claire started in our recreational program and then transitioned to the T&T competitive team about 4 years ago.  She would like to qualify to the USA Gymnastics Championships again in 2019 at Level 9.

14-year-old Thomas Havrun  is also from Huntersville. He qualified in the Double Mini Level 9. Havrun was self-taught until he started training at Everest Gymnastics in June 2017.

Performances in Greensboro also will determine berths on the junior and senior U.S. National Teams for acrobatic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline and tumbling. For rhythmic gymnastics and women’s trampoline, the competition will be part of the selection process for the 2018 World Championships and Youth Olympic Games. The Junior Olympic division has several different levels, and national titles will be awarded for each level and age group for each discipline.
